Confirmation
The Sacrament of Confirmation strengthens the grace received at Baptism and deepens our relationship with the Church. Through this sacrament, the baptized person is enriched with the special gifts of the Holy Spirit and is more fully united with Christ and His Church. Confirmation gives us the courage and strength to live as faithful witnesses of Christ through our words and actions, proclaiming, sharing, and defending the faith.
Anointing with Sacred Chrism
The candidate is anointed with oil on the forehead in the sign of the cross, symbolizing that they are sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit. This sacred anointing strengthens them to live as a faithful witness of Christ and to proclaim His love and truth through their words and actions.
The Gifts of the Holy Spirit
Wisdom: The gift that enables us to see all things through the eyes of God and to judge according to His truth and divine plan.
Understanding: The gift that gives us deeper insight into the mysteries of faith and helps us grasp the meaning of God’s revealed truths.
Counsel: The gift of right judgment that guides us to discern what is good and true, helping us make choices that lead us closer to God.
Fortitude: The gift of strength and courage that enables us to remain faithful to Christ, especially in times of difficulty, trial, or opposition.
Knowledge: The gift that helps us recognize God’s presence in creation and understand the true purpose and meaning of all things in relationship with Him.
Piety: The gift of loving devotion and reverence toward God, our Father, which inspires a deeper life of prayer, worship, and trust in Him.
Fear of the Lord: The gift that fills us with awe and wonder before God’s greatness. It is not fear of punishment, but a loving reverence that moves us to honor God and avoid anything that separates us from Him.
Laying Hands
This gesture, performed by the bishop or priest, signifies the invocation of the Holy Spirit upon the candidate. It represents the outpouring of the Spirit’s grace and the continuation of the apostolic ministry through the laying on of hands, which has been handed down through apostolic succession.
Sign of Peace

Confirmation Preparation Requirements
Candidates preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation are expected to:
- Attend Faith Formation classes every Wednesday.
- Select a sponsor who will support and guide them in their faith journey.
- Write a Saint Name essay reflecting on the life and virtues of their chosen patron saint.
- Complete required service hours as an expression of Christian discipleship and a commitment to serving others.
- Participate in the Sacramental Preparation classes held on Saturday mornings.
Adults who desire to enter the Catholic Church are welcomed through the Easter Vigil celebration, where they receive the Sacraments of Christian Initiation—Baptism, Confirmation, and the Holy Eucharist—after a period of formation and preparation through the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA).
